I assume you have downloaded the system board drivers from the system board maker. And tried the chip set drivers from the Intel site for AC'97 sound from the chip. I also assume you have made sure the BIOS CMOS Setup has the sound chip function enabled, that the driver did install, and you have checked the driver in Control Panel, System, Device Manager, and it shows it installed and working OK. Then short of volume control settings, correct sound plug and good speakers, it means your sound adapter on the system board is broken. You could always disable it on the system board and install a cheap sound card.
