to work with mouse in the dos environment you need to load a dos mode mouse driver. you can do this by running a mouse.exe which is dos driver provided by microsoft but only exception is that not every program in the dos is programm to made work with mouse because it requires extra effort to programme mouse, so it really depend on the programm you are using but if the programe like edit is having dos support then mouse.exe should run prior to loading edit in the memory pls note that mouse.exe is driver and you do not have to run the file time and again
