You may not lose anything but to be sure here's how to do it:
For your favorites: From within Internet Explorer, from the drop down menu, choose 
file, then import/export, follow the directions, save them to a floppy.
For your address book, from within Outlook Express, choose file from the drop 
down menu, then export, save it to a floppy.
I don't know what you mean by 'save your desktop'.
