Start by Opening and running
CWshredder.exe and then
Stinger . After loading these programs, close all
other windows and run it, then reboot and run the next one and reboot. These should
clean up a few problems the online scan missed. Then update and run AD-Aware_v6 again, selecting the
custom mode and enabling all scans and searches that it allows.
Then get a program called
IEradicator. Run it to remove all remaining traces of Internet Explorer. You
need to clean up all the parts of it that the un-install process you used missed.
Then download the full IE 6 sp1 install program from IE6 SP1 and save it on your system. Then run it and do a custom
Install to replace everything in it that you use and install a clean copy of Internet
Explorer 6.
After that is done, go to the Windows UpDate site and install all the windows security
patches and Windows ME patches again.
Then work through all items in Windows ME Fixes to clean
up the system.
If things get bad enough and you can not recover, you may have to boot from that
recovery CD and start all over with a clean install back to how the system was setup
when it was new.
