Hi,
Thanks Jack and Worm for such speedy replies. Sorry I should had said in the first
post, that i'm running Me with 256MB RAM. Although it is small, i've got used to
managing to get by within such limits.
Since posting, i've run Disk Cleanup, with the only item not checked being "Delete
Windows Uninstall Information" Have also run Scandisk and Defrag, though I must admit
the Defrag took a whole lot longer than it would have normally. Also deleted Temporary
Internet Files. Since restarting it appears to have brought the info in the pie chart
back into line.
There are two other problems on here, but thought in the original post that I would
tackle each one separately, not realising they may be related. So when you suggested
deleting all System Restore files, hit home to me, that System Restore is not working.
It won't set restore points and there are none existing already to go back to.
So what you say about corrupted System Restore files certainly appears to be very
relevent.
The third problem comes to light after you mentioned booting from a Windows Me boot
diskette. I have a boot diskette, problem being, the disk drive is misbehaving also.
(Betcha wondering what else could be lurking. lol). Any diskette that I put in, returns
a message that the disk is not formatted, even though the disks are ok on other machines.
I'd really like to go ahead with the details you've outlined and get rid of some
of the rubbish on here as there's bound to be loads. lol.
I only use the machine for the internet and bits and pieces, nothing heavy like video
editing etc. so is generally running fine and not under any stress. (Unlike it's
owner!).
Am going to have to head to bed as it's now 02:50 here now and have work to go to
tomorrow. Will see how things go in the meantime.
Again, many thanks for you help.
Terry
