You might need to look in the Windows Explorer tree and check manually. If they don't appear don't worry about it. Just proceed. If you tried going from IE5.5 to IE6.0 SP1 and/or then tried to revert to IE5.5 it is usually better to remove IE altogether with IEradicator and scan & defrag and then do a fresh install of IE6 with a full update.
