Whenever a computer starts opening files by the dozen, the first thing I do is reboot
using a different keyboard and mouse.
A stuck CTRL key, ALT key, Spacebar, or Mouse button caused all sorts of odd Windows
behavior, especially with USB keyboards. PS/2 Keyboards are even worse. Very rarely,
the keyboard controller on the computer's main board will have failed, causing similar
behavior.
Hope this helps.
