Can you boot into safe mode or to a bootdisk? (Assuming that you have a floppy drive.) Did you run scandisk after formatting the new drive? Have you tried running it in safemode or from the bootisk? Have you tried defragging in safe mode? If you have used a boot floppy in the install process are you sure that IT is virus free?
