Try taking a look at this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer In the right-hand pane it should read: MaxCachedIcons 0x00001000 (4096) If you click on the Icon you should see a hexadecimal value of 1000.
