Windows ME registry problem

Hi,
I need to somehow fix my windows ME registry through DOS, as, because of a registry
error, I can't access my desktop. Safe mode won't work, neither will scanreg (and
scandisk stops working halfway through). I've run f-prot, but it can find no viruses.
What do I do? Where do I go? Is there a download that will save me. Please help.
