SpyBot S&D should not be effecting Norton's. It sounds like you have something
else wrong, like a virus infection that is shutting down Norton's. If you can start
Norton's, select it from its Systray icon or the Start Menu and do a manual update
online of both its virus definitions reference file and its program updates. Then
do a full scan of the system to see if something new is picked up.
It is possible to get one of the new virus, before the Norton's knows about it
and has it in your updated virus definitions reference file. One of the things that
many of the new virus do, is shutdown your virus scan program so that it does not
work and does not scan your e-mail. There is a very new one going around the past
three days, and the system could have been infected with it.
If you can not get the Norton's to update online and do a full scan, try rebooting
into Safe Mode and do the scan in Safe Mode (you will not be able to do an online
update while in Safe Mode).
You could also try doing an OnLine virus scan at HouseCall_AV that will detect the
newest virus. If the system is infected bad enough that HouseCall_AV will not run, then
try downloading a copy of
Stinger as it can detect some (about 35) of the most
common virus going around, and was updated a few days ago. After downloading it,
you can run it, or boot into Safe Mode to run it if a virus is also blocking it from
running.
Once you get a clean scan with an up to date Norton's, try installing and updating
SpyBot S&D again and run it. (Don't turn the immunize function on). Then try AD-Aware_v6.
