Windows ME Authentication problems

I have a question about Connect
to a Windows XP or 2000 system with a Windows 95, 98, or Me system over a Network:
Short version: I can't successfully logon to my Windows ME computer (no log-off
option in the Start menu).
Long version:
I am trying to share my Me desktop's printer with my W2K laptop from work via WiFi
router network setup. Both computers access the internet, and I have used NetMeeting
(connected via IP) for remote control and for cumbersome file-sharing between the
two. My previous 98 laptop did successfully share files in Windows Explorer with
the Me desktop. From the article I believe I have authentication problems.
I have not been successful in logging in to my Me desktop (no log-off option on the
start menu). I used the registry to display the logon screen at boot-up, and I activated
the Multi-User stuff from Control Panel (please, how can I undo this, or at least
avoid the dialog?). Previously, the desktop booted directly without any logon, now
I get a "Select User Name" and password dialog. After logon here, I get a message
"No domain server was available to validate your password...". After this, I get
a "Microsoft Networking" logon; I use the same name and password, but I don't know
what to enter for "Domain". Does this have to match the laptop (which I don't want
to change & mess-up work)? What if the laptop isn't around? I've tried my workgroup
name, and the laptop's Domain name at this logon with the same results: I get the
same error message as above (for a second time). The desktop shows up on the laptop's
"My Network Places", but if I double click it I get the message "...The network path
was not found."
I started to add a user to the W2K laptop (to match the desktop user), what Domain
do I use here? Can it be anything as long as it matches the desktop? Is it posible
that my work PC has disabled user additions? While adding this user, I get an error
message "...The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain
failed".
I'm trying to avoid making changes to the work laptop, is it OK to just create a
user on the desktop that matches the laptop user (who will be logged in on both machines)?
If you're still reading this far, I'd appreciate any help...
P.S. Why can't I have line feeds -and- text wrapping in this message?
