EMERGENCY BOOT DISK FREEWARE
There is no "real" DOS with Windows ME. You have to make a bootdiskette in Add-Remove
programs Start-Up Disk (or EBD, Emergency Boot Disk) and then start the computer
with the diskette in the A: drive.
To get out is easy with ME, just press Ctrl+Alt+Del and the computer will re-boot.
You should really have a bootdiskette made from YOUR system, but if this is not possible
just download the ME OEM bootdisk from the BOOTDISK link above to any computer's
hard drive. Put a floppy in the A: drive and double click the file. This will make
you a bootdisk. (Make TWO)
Put it in your own computer and start up.
Choose Minimal boot and allow the A:\> prompt to load. Now type:
A:\>copy c:\windows\command\ebd a:\
(Or is that: A:\>copy c:\windows\command\ebd\*.* a:\ ) I forget. So try them both.
Take the first bootdiskette out and put a THIRD bank formatted floppy in the A: drive
and then press Enter.
This should copy the correct files for your system to the bootdiskette.
If it fails then you have the second bootdiskette which will still be useable.
Is that the only problem you have?
