EMERGENCY BOOT DISK FREEWARE
ME will not run on NTFS file tables. You need about 15% free-space to run a hard
drive successfully and you only have 15% left over, so you are at the limit.
How big is your hidden C:\_RESTORE Folder? This folder can take up a lot of space
if it is not managed frequently.
What protective software are you using in terms of Anti-Virus program, Firewall,
and Anti-Trojan programs?
I use AVG Free Edition Anti-Virus, Zone Alarm Free firewall, SpyBot SD, AdAware SE
& SpywareBlaster, all freeware.
Do you have an ME Bootdiskette. If not then make one in Add-Remove programs, Start-Up
Disk. Then go to www.burzurq.com, download Delindex.bat and copy the file to your
bootdiskette.
Start the computer with the bootdiskette in the A: drive, choose Minimal boot and,
at te prompt, type:
A:\>delindex run , and press Enter.
You will see a read out of the free space increase before and after running Delindex
and all of your index.dat files will have been replaced by new ones.
Then reduce the System Restore cache by typing:
A:\>DELTREE C:\_RESTORE , press Enter and answer Yes to deleting the sub-folders.
Now type: A:\>scandisk /all /surface and press Enter to run a full drive scan.
When complete remove the bootdisk and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to re-boot the system, and
run defrag.
Check the amount of free space on the drive, and if you will, post back and say what
it is.
