'Suspend' option vanished!!!

When I had finished a task yesterday,instead of chosing the 'suspend' option,I chose
the 'sleep' option instead,when closing down for a while.I was very surprised later
to see that the 'suspend option was no longer even available; in fact it had vanished
into thin air! Any ideas anyone? (I hope that 'suspend' and 'sleep' are the same
terms in English configured computers!!)
