WindowsMe not recognizing dvd writer

I recently installed a BenQ dvd r-rw on my computer. However, the operating system
doesn't recognize it as a dvd, but only as a CD-ROM. I've installed the Firmware
driver from the BenQ website, but still not working.
Does anyone know what i'm missing or what else should i do?
