the problems stem from unsafe web browsing, not in part due to you but security issues with Internet Explorer, try browsing with Firefox or Opera as they are safer and more secure over IE, also, downloading, installing, "enable all protection" with SpywareBlaster 3.2 which does not scan, it protects against scumware, use along side with SpywareGaurd which works in real time and offers homepage protection against hijackers. using Ad-Aware SE and SpyBot-Search & Destroy to scan and clean (download, update and scan) keeping in mind to check for updates on a regular basis, you should be set against most scumware out there. as carol had said, your system restore being off has nothing to do with you system getting infected. not being protected is why. if you are not using a firewall, Free Firewalls offers a good list of the more popular free ones, Zone Alarm works great. everyone should have that protection now days.
