EMERGENCY BOOT DISK FREEWARE
After four years of struggling with ME I threw the entire operating system away and
moved to XP Pro. I was lucky in that my computer is compatible. (Made for Windows
2000 Professional)
When using ME I put it on a 4096Mb (4·0Gb) drive C: and made three further Logical
drives, D: (Moving the My Documents folder to this drive), E: (Moving the Email folder
to this drive) , & F: which I used for Music, and as an Archive.
I installed, updated (needs a Service Pack really) tuned, and got it running to perfection
then, after disconnecting from the internet and cleaning up with EmpTemp, (Don't
use EmpRunner) CCleaner, and RegCleaner 4·3, I scanned with SpyBot SD, AdAware SE
& SpywareBlaster, deleting everything found and deleting all backups. I turned System
Restore off and deleted the hidden C:\_RESTORE Folder from the bootdiskette prompt:
A:\>deltree c:\_restore , pressing Enter, and answering Yes to deleting all
the sub-folders.
I put delindex.bat on the bootdiskette and was able to delete just a little more
with:
A:\>delindex run
... and then I imaged drive C: to three CDRs to restore with, instead of relying
on system restore which I found to be - practically - useless.
Now that I use XP Professional, I don't have to take medication anymore ... ;-)
