That error message gets a lot of hits, most related to Windows XP (not Windows ME which I doubt came on a new system from GateWay!), and hardware driver related problems.

The "Caller" part really has nothing to do with calling your ISP or external communications. Using a USB connected modem instead of the faster/better Ethernet is known to be one cause of the error message. Their software drivers for the USB to modem interface might not be too good. Does the modem/ISP site have newer drivers available. The cable tech might not know anything about the software issues. Other causes are bad memory (run a standalone memory test), bad device drivers and a whole host of other suspected causes that would be hard to prove.

So I doubt it is a problem with the Gateway system unless it is a memory hardware problem. Most likely something added to support the broadband connection. (Bet you are trying to use a USB connection to the modem.)
