Deleting the Normal.Dot file would be a good idea as it is a common source of problems, and is know to cause this error if corrupted. Search your system for more than one copy of the file. WORD will rebuild it the next time you start WORD.

I hope that after installing SpyBot and Ad-Aware you were able to get on line and update their reference files. If not do that and run them again. You have only started the cleanup process.

There is a know problem with the Trident video adapter drivers causing this exact error message if they are back level. See: MS note. If you have that video adapter, downloading and updating to the latest video drivers might fix the problem.
