I cannot seem to find a simple solution to this anywhere else and so I am making
a humble plea: does anyone have the answer to this?
The error message :"A newer version of internet explorer is required to run MSN than
the one currently installed on your computer" and points to a url to install the
"new" version.
-I cannot get on to the net to fix the problem nor can I sucessfully install msn
from a cd. I tried getting the ie 6 patch but that would not install either because
I could not dial in.
I have tried everything i could think of from using the microsoft solutions to editing
the registry to copy and pasting files with no luck.
Can someone point me to a clear solution to this problem other than reformatting
the drive and starting over?
If it helps the msn corruption is part of a long sequence of problems that occured
in this order:
-Windows would not start other than in safe mode due to what i believe was a static
vxd error. Tried the microsoft help file on ME startup but I had no luck
-After using a go back utility to take my hard drive back to what I thought was a
safe date, Internet explorer started acting erraticly (slow, crashes, dll errors
and the like) I went to microsoft and got an update but it would not finish the install.
"Setup was not able to install all components" error
-I attempted to use the microsoft solutions to the above error message and now I
get the following message whenever i try to install MSN from a cd or other source:"newer
version of internet explorer is required" and a bogus url.
Thanks in advance, tried to be as concise as i could
