EMERGENCY BOOT DISK FREEWARE
Sounds like a good computer to me. Is an an OEM install? 128Mb is fine for '98 but
with ME and more content in web pages you should really up the RAM to 256Mb if not
512Mb. With 512Mb you could consider moving to XP Home, especially if you add a second
larger storage drive as a slave. Both '98 and ME are low on system resources, something
which can't be improved within the operating system architecture.
XP has a LOT more in the way of system resources and can use 1024Mb of RAM easily.
(The maximum is 4 x 1024Mb modules.) XP makes even better use of the original 256Mb
I had fitted in this machine, when running ME, with a PIII 1000MHz processor.
Wouldn't hurt to check it out.
A word of caution. If adding new hardware you need to watch the size of the Power
Supply Unit. (Rating is usually on a sticker on the side of the PSU somewhere.)
Adding a second drive needs 15watts more and each RAM module takes another 5watts.
Here are some reference links for you.
