Found a better way to fix this problem and add GIF support that works at the same
time. (Plus some others.)
If the following folder does not already exit, create it:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt
Then Download this
GRPHFLTS.ZIP and save it in a TEMP folder. Then EXTRACT the contents to its GRPHFLTS
folder.
Next copy all of the files that were extracted from the GRPHFLTS.zip file into
the Shared Grphflt folder. If the folder was already there, many of the files
may have existed already. But replace them with this copy.
If you know how, you could directly extract the ZIP files into the folder to save
a step.
Then in the folder, using Explorer locate the GRPHFLT.REG file in the folder and
double click on it to run it and update the Registry.
MSPAINT should now handle JPG and GIF files (plus some others).
