VCM directory

Me again, I had a problem you helped fix elsewhere. It was related to a CWS find
that cwshredder wouldn't fix. I think I got rid of it. New problem (maybe).
I have a windows\VCM directory. I know from browsing these forums that it's a version
conflict manager, or at least it's supposed to be. My question is why would it be
storing supposedly overwritten things that I didn't write?
examples:
DXDIAG.EXE v 4.7.1.3000 in system directory.
DXDIAG.EXE v 4.8.0.400 in VCM directory with a bunch of other files created
yesterday (dll's, .000, VXD files, etc). All I did was install iexplore5.5, I didn't
install directx of any sort unless it comes with it.
BUT per this post
I see that vcmui.exe is supposed to run the conflict manager. vcmui doesn't exist
anywhere on my drive.
Curiouser and curiouser. Can anyone comment so I can sleep in peace tonight?
