I went into msconfig and made sure all the boxes were ticked, which they were, although I didn't see a folder or and entry called statemgr. I remembered I downloaded a windows update that might of upset my system restore, could this have been likely? It was specifically an update to prevent me actually losing the very function I lost. If only I had system restore! This is why I never used to bother with updates, I don't trust em.
