Cannot boot to safe. I ran Firefox and did a sys restore to get rid of it. In the
interim, I also clicked on some forwarded E-mail and cleaned some related registry
files. Before a reboot I deleted the options/cabs folder. When I rebooted, all
I got was the wallpaper. When I boot to safe, I just get the screen. I've tried
everything that's possible from dos (restore, scandisk, reg restore, a 2 year old
virus disk, shell/progman, etc.) and nothing works. My only salvation is if someone
has had the same problem as all of the conventional fixed do not work. To top it
off, my CD drive has not worked in months so I have to use a USB external which I
can still access thru msconfig. I've gone to all of the Microsoft sites and tried
6 different boot disks, and tried to install a registry file, that I manually backed
up, thru regedit, and get an error message. Any help would be appreciated. I am
taking out files and saving to a floppie thru msconfig/extract and will run the recovery
disk if all else fails. Thank You
