Try restoring a registry backup dated prior to the attempted install. That's, if
it's been less than 5 days, as there are only 5 backups created by default, once
a day on bootup.
In ME, you can do this from the Run command, s'posedly. Start - Run - type: SCANREGW
/RESTORE then hit Enter. Pick a backup dated prior to this. A good backup will
have the word "Started" before it. You should get a message that Windows successfully
restored the registry. Reboot.
Then redownload IE6 but install it offline for best results. Close all running programs
and open windows first. Unrelated, it's best not to use hibernate or standby features.
