WinME is a 16/32 Bit OS, unlike WinXP. It is the Office CD that is rejecting your operating system, not vice versa. Look at the requirements on the Office XP packaging. You don't have an option, other than swapping something.

It's cheaper to upgrade from ME to XP, if you have a stout enough PC to handle XP. Otherwise, you have to sell your Office XP copy (because retailers seldom accept software returns) and then buy an Office 2000 version.
