But this time do it the correct way. Boot into Safe Mode. To boot into Safe mode, Restart the system but before the initial Windows ME splash screen shows, press and hold the "Ctrl" key or rapidly tap on the F8 key. This will give you the boot menu. Select the Safe Mode option. When it finishes, exit out of Help and reboot the system again back into normal mode. You might want to run SCANDISK next in Standard Mode. Then in Thorough mode if you have time (hours) to check for any disk corruption. Then run the Disk Defragmenter.
