Thanks for the advice everyone - it's really helpful. Part of the reason I want to upgrade is that I have got a new computer, which makes my old laptop seem sooo slow! I've got the new one at home and the old (Me) one in the lab. I think I'm malware free, I'm fairly conscientious about removing stuff - just windows getting senile I think. I've had a look for windows CDs on ebay & Me seems to go for about the same price as 2000 - would the latter run OK (have 1GHz athlon & 320Mb BTW)? Some programs I'd like to use need at least 2000. Thanks, Alex
