Run SCANDISK in Thorough mode. Your system might have developed
a bad block of sectors on the disk drive and it might be taking the disk drive that
long to read those areas of the disk drive. And the common Microsoft files might
be in that area. Scandisk in thorough mode could take hours to run, but might be
able to recover and "fix" the drive errors.
Also run a standalone memory test on your system if you can. If part of you system
memory has failed, you might not notice it until you start one of the MS bloatware
programs like Word or Power Point that require a lot of memory. It might take a long
time to get everything else swapped out to the virtual memory space (swapfile) on
the disk drive and the large program loaded.
