What file? Sort of like getting in a CAB and not telling the driver where you are going.

Have you checked the system board BIOS CMOS Setup and verified that it is set to boot from the diskette A: first, so you can boot from a Windows ME diskette. Or set to boot from the CD-Rom drive before the disk drive so you can start from a bootable CD if you have one?

You want to boot from a Windows ME startup diskette if you can and run Scandisk C: to make sure the disk drive is OK first. Then maybe restore a backup copy of the Registry after trying to run some sort of virus scan.
