Unable to install wireless adapter

My attempts to install the Linksys wireless notebook adapter in my Inspiron 4000
have failed. The error
message reads: CoCreate Instance failed, Status is
0x80040154, then in a new window, Runtime Error
Program RAMFILES\LINKSYS\WIRELESS-G NOTEBOOK
ADAPTER\ODHOST.EXE abnormal termination
Support is suggesting a problem with my registry and I no longer have the OS CD.
Can anyone direct me to a possible patch or work-around?
