The adapter used when the computer first boots up is indeed set in the BIOS (obviously, since win is not loaded yet). However, if you can't change it there you could try allowing multimonitor suport, then, in Display Properties, uncheck "Extend my desktop on this monitor" for the old board. If you go this way, your monitor will not start untill windows boots up (no POST messages), so whenever you want to acces the BIOS you need to switch monitors.
