cd rom problems...

hi everyone...im sorry if this has been covered..i looked back and couldnt find anything...
a little 3 foot monster killed our cd rom few months ago...we bought a new one and
installed it....then we got a virus on our pc and we tried to refomat our pc...the
windows could not read the cd rom..so we had to call the experts..he said there was
a problem with the slave/master..pls ignore my ignorance but im not sure how the
cd drive should be set..or how to change it in the setup for that matter...
anyways...we had to reformat our pc again few weeks ago...and now when i put a cd
in the cd drive it give me this message:
please insert cd in drive M..
i've tried all the cd's i have...it only recognized one music cd and started playing..but
then few minutes later i tried that same cd...and it doesnt work anymore
:'(
and of course burning cd's is not working(abviously dah eh? :) )...nero does the
whole burned complet ..but the cd is empty...windows media cant start...
help pls!! now im worried that another virus will kill my pc and i wont be able to
refomat the pc...
