Find New hardware message

I use wondows XP on my on machine but a friend is still running windows ME. She
started having a problem where after the machine boots it says that It found new
hardware but it does not list the specific hardware. I have tried to access BIOS
with no luck.
It is an IBM Aptiva running a Pentium2 processor.
