Hi Malynda.

So this problem as only arisen since you've been using the XP comp. Are you using
the same ISP for both comps?

When you say you get a dial tone can you hear it dialing or do you just get a picture
showing you its dialing?

You can test your modem in Control Panel - Modems. I use Win98 so it might
look a bit different to yours. On the second tab Diagnostics look to see which COM
post your modem is on. Select that port and click the More Info... button
this will test to see if you modem can connect to a line.

I physically remove the phone connection of one to put in the other could that
be it?

I would have thought that you would have to swap lines from one comp to another unless
you have a router.

Another thing to check is Control Panel - Internet Options on the Connections
tab look to see which ISP its using to connect to the internet and look at the

1. Never dial a connection
2. Dial whenever a network connection is not present
3. Always dial my default connection.

Which one of these is used?
