I've installed USB 2.0 PCI cards in Windows 98SE/2000/ME computers, and I also recommend cards with the NEC USB 2.0 chipset. I've never had a problem with NEC-chipset cards.

My Athlon 1.1 has an integrated NEC USB 2.0 chipset. Ironically, when the motherboard was new (Dec. 2001) I had USB 2.0 speed in Windows 98, but not in XP, because the MB's supplied USB 2.0 driver for XP didn't work. I did finally have USB 2.0 speed in XP when XP Service Pack 1 came out, and solved this whole problem!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Athlon 1.1 - 768 MB RAM = 98SE & XP Home

Athlon 3000+ 64 - 1024 MB RAM = 98SE (@768 MB RAM) & XP Pro

IBM ThinkPad PIII 900 - 384 MB RAM = 98SE & XP Pro SP2

Windows 2000 Server in the basement
