Laurel: First let assume that you can connect to the internet. If so, do you have internet security? if so click the internet security icon on your desktop. I know, i know, you say that you cannot run a scan. When the internet security window opens, click Norton anti-virus and the scan window will open, click scan. If you cannot do that, than type the words scan my computer at top of window. The reason you want to do this is to find out if your pc is infected. You will find out with a scan and can delete the infected files or whatever is wrong. The fact that you are unable to back up further than 1/27 for a system restore is a sign that maybe your pc is indeed infected. But that is nothing to really worry about. We all fall into that trap once in a while. If you have further questions. please do not hesitate to reply.....Elmoticky
