I have a Dell Dimension 4300, 1.5Ghz Pentium 4 machine, 40 gig harddrive. I justed updated the RAM from 384Mb to 512Mb. It currently runs Win ME. I recently purchased XP Home upgrade edition but have not yet installed it after hearing this upgrade route is often problematic .... What issues are usually encountered after this update roue is taken ? Also, does this upgrade route invalidate the ME license such that if I needed to reinstall XP at a later date, I could no longer do so since ME is now invalid ? (Got this idea from Vista upgrade which invalidates the XP license). If that is the case, I will get an XP full install version instead. As a home user, what is recommended, XP Home to XP Professional. My aim is to get another year or 2 out of the machine until I really need to upgrade.
