Your machine will run XP fine, but I would definitely reccomend a clean install over the upgrade route. This can be done with an XP upgrade disk, but ONLY if you have your ME disk handy (XP won't "invalidate" it), but it has to be a MS disk, not an OEM restore disk. If your computer came with ME installed and one of these restore disks, the upgrade route may be your only option unless you can borrow a Microsoft/non OEM 98/ME disk from someone. The first thing to do is to save any documents/photos/files you want to keep by burning them to a CD, emailing them to yourself, etc. Also make sure you have the CDs for any applications like Office, Works, etc. so you can reinstall them after you reformat your drive and install XP. After doing these things, follow the direction at the following site and you will end up with a clean, new install of XP on a properly formatted drive (4K clusters instead of 512 byte clusters, and NTFS vs. FAT32 file system): http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
