I've waited a few days, before posting again, in case anyone else had any better
solutions to suggest. But it seems no one else has.
The confusion, unfortunately, continues. There is no such O/S as "ME 2005". There
is only Windows Millenium, launched in the year 2000. You need to be very accurate
with your terminology, or it will be impossible to give you any usable advice.
I want to repeat the most important part of what I said originally: if Windows won't
boot, you have installed an incompatible ("wrong") BIOS.
This is down to the engineering of your motherboard. Your original BIOS version was
engineered specifically for the set of components (chipset) that the motherboard
manufacturer used on that board. It is perfectly possible that the BIOS was unique
to that board, if the board uses a non-standard chipset configuration.
The BIOS software is written without specific knowledge of what components are in
use on your m/board. So updates to the BIOS may not work, if the board manufacturer
"cheated" a little, by tweaking the original BIOS to work with its board.
To re-write the BIOS is possible, but it takes a lot of programming ability. I know
of one chap who re-wrote his BIOS, but it took him upwards of 30 hours to figure
out what he needed to do.
In practical terms, your m/board may have reached an age where it would make better
sense to retire it, and buy a more modern board that comes with the advanced BIOS
you now need.
