STEP 1:
If you have a CMOS problem, remove the CMOS battery for ten seconds and then replace
it, to clear the CMOS settings.
This battery is on the motherboard: a silver battery that looks (in size and shape)
like a quarter dollar coin. On some motherboards, you also have to reset a jumper
on the m/board: read your motherboard's manual (downloadable from the m/board manufacturer's
website).
Before opening the PC's case, unplug the PC from the wall mains. And wear rubber/plastic
washing-up gloves throughout, to prevent damage to the motherboard from the static
electricity generated by your body and clothing.
STEP 2:
Error 29 is a general error, meaning simply that a device is disabled in the BIOS.
To correct the BIOS, reboot the computer and press DEL (repeatedly, at one second
intervals) during the POST (Power On, Self Test), before Windows begins to load.
The BIOS (if it's any damn good) will contain an option to reset the BIOS to optimum
(or factory default) settings. Try using that option; then save the new settings,
and reboot.
STEP 3:
If you still can't open Control Panel, go to the following post and follow the instructions
set out there:
