I suggest you start a new thread, mentioning MAC in the name of the thread, to attract
the attention of anyone with experience of the actual problem you've encountered.

Consider whether you've ever installed any Mac software on your machine, that M$'s
update site might be finding traces of. There are emulation programs and god-knows-what
about, that I suppose might confuse the update site if you've ever installed them.

Have you ever had a virus strike? That's the most likely thing I can think of that
could have made significant changes to your system, which might result in it not
being recognised by M$.

The Windows Update site might simply be confused. Virus damage to key parts of your
operating system might prevent the Update software recognising it as Windows; and
it might simply *assume* that any O/S it doesn't recognise must be Mac. Without the
slightest justification, naturally - just as a default reaction.

It'll surely be scanning your Master Boot Record, before assuming that you're not
running any version of Windows. Have you got drive overlay software installed? Or
an unusual dual-boot arrangement? Both of those would make changes to a standard
MBR layout, and might therefore cause the MBR to not be recognised as Windows.

Virus damage to the Master Boot Record is also a possibility, I suppose. Though in
that event I should think you'd be unable to boot the machine.

Just thinking around the problem!

If none of those possibilities apply in your case, try a new thread with a subject
line that explicitly specifies Mac in the subject.

Ed
