UPDATE: After my original post, I played some more with the Start Menu update link,
and in the space of an hour it failed at least 6 different times with the bogus MAC
message. And sometimes, clearing temp files and cookies, wouldn't fix it. So I
don't know exactly what's going on. Just that if I play with it, trying the update
link, trying the M'soft site link, eventually I will get the correct response from
the update site.
