Peter, you seem to be suggesting that Roy's problem is due to a virus infection, 
but there is nothing to indicate this.

The problem appears to be simple. Roy's system is configured so that .bmp and .gif 
image files are being handled by Internet Explorer. All that he needs to do is install 
a dedicated image program, such as Irfanview, to handle image files (instead of using 
IE to do that).
