No, you don't have to scrap ME. MS just isn't issuing any more updates to it as of
July '06. All updates up to that point are available on the update site however.
If you haven't updated ME in a while I would go get all the available updates. It
might take a few visits depending on what is needed for your machine. As far as ZoneAlarm
goes, go to oldversion.com and get version 6.0 which is one of the last versions
compatible with Win9x, and again like ME, still perfectly usable. When setting it
up, just set it for manual (not automatic) updates and forget about it. AVGs latest
release of 7.5 works fine with ME also. I'd try downloading and installing it again
after you've applied all Windows updates. There may be some .dll file or whatever
that's needed for AVG to install correctly.
