Editing Desktop Task Bar

How do I edit the program shortcuts in the desktop task bar (right hand side near the clock). When not paying attention I clicked on a link I shouldn't have done when surfing the web, it tried to auto install a piece of spyware blocking software. While I cleaned up the few files it deposited on my hard drive and there is no apparent damage I am left with an annoying blinking icon on my taskbar between my clock and the internet connection icon. This button goes to the website for the spyware blocking software (hah!) and comes up with a page about buying etc. Is there anyway to edit the buttons that are present in the desktop task bar?. Thanks in advance for any help. Regards
