"Real life" has intruded, postponing my ME update situation, but I hope to get back to the problem here shortly.

I think the reason that I was able to checkmark the updates I wanted from the Microsoft catalog but was unable to get them to appear in my "download basket" is because I was using Netscape 7.1, which I greatly prefer to any version of IE.

My next attempt will be to try to do the same thing using IE. If that doesn't work, I may install Firefox (which I downloaded a few weeks ago but have not yet installed) and try your solution.
