Kodak Digital Camera C633 - Deleted files on Lexar SD card

I bought a Kodak C633 camera, with a Lexar SD card. I accidentally deleted some photos from the SD card, and none of the data recovery programs I can find on the internet are able to recover the deleted files. The Card has not been formatted since, nor have I written any new files to it. The camera is attached to my PC's USB 1.1 port.

For some reason I don't understand, I can't access the camera through the ordinary Windows ME mass storage driver, in the way that I access my USB pen drive. The camera is only recognised on the USB port when I install Kodak's connection software for Windows ME.

Thinking the problem might be due to Windows, I looked into the possibility of accessing the camera in DOS. There are some interesting internet programs that claim to be able to access a USB mass storage device in DOS, but none of them will recognise this particular camera.

Is it possible to recover deleted files from an SD card on this type of camera, and if so what program(s) can do it? Or do I need a special SD card reader? Or are the files irrecoverable?
